The Australian Polish Historical Society was established in 2004, in Melbourne, and is a non-profit community-based organization. It comprises over 30 members, who are interested in documenting and celebrating the Polish presence in Victoria and Australia.

 

 

Aims:

 
- integration of people interested in Australian-Polish history, incl. recent and contemporary issues
 
- promotion, interchange and advancement of knowledge about the Polish migration to and heritage in Australia

27th Anniversary of Martial Law in Poland

 

On the 13th of December 1981 the hopes of millions of Poles were destroyed, and the chance for democratic change was shelved for many years.

 

The martial law brought suffering to thousands of people - those killed, jailed, dismissed, their livelihoods destroyed. There is no other event in our modern history of comparable importance. Those of us who were there still vividly remember the depravity of the communist regime and the broad support to the resistance movement among the people.

 

We have placed 3 documents on this site with the basic facts, dates, testimonies and references (all documents in Polish).

68th Anniversary of the Soviet’s invasion on Poland – 17th September 1939

 

W związku z 68 rocznicą napaści wojsk sowieckich na Polskę wszystkim, którzy ucierpieli wskutek krzywd, nieprawości, i zginęli w wyniku tej zbrodni, i tym, których krzywdy nigdy nie zostały uznane i docenione, wyrazy najwyższego szacunku, uznania i współczucia przekazuje Australijsko-Polskie Towarzystwo Historyczne.

In September 1939, as a result of Hitler's and Stalin's partition of Poland 13 million of Polish citizens, including over 5 million ethnic Poles, found themselves under Soviet occupation. From the very beginning of this period they suffered arrests, deportations and murders.

25th Anniversary of Solidarity

 

One of its first and major achievements of APTH to-date is the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Solidarity movement. The celebration included a unique exhibition at the Victorian Parliament (Queen’s Hall) in September 2005. The Hon. Rob Hulls, Attorney General of Victoria, officially opened the exhibition.
